Engineered wood panels like plywood, MDF, OSB

Engineered Wood

Engineered wood is made from veneers, strands, or fibers bonded with adhesives into sheets or shapes. Common types include plywood, particleboard, MDF, HDF, OSB, LVL, and CLT—used across furniture, flooring, cabinetry, and construction.

Common Types

  1. Plywood: Cross-laminated veneers; strong, versatile; construction & furniture.
  2. Particleboard: Wood particles bonded with resin; furniture/shelving; non-structural.
  3. MDF: Dense wood fibers; smooth surface; ideal for painting/veneering/detail.
  4. HDF: Denser than MDF; higher strength; flooring & wear-resistant uses.
  5. OSB: Oriented strands; strong/rigid; sheathing/roofing/structural use.
  6. LVL: Laminated veneers; strong/stable; beams/headers/structural members.
  7. CLT: Cross-laminated panels; exceptional strength/stability; large-scale builds.

Other Types

  • Blockboard — solid wood strip core with veneer faces
  • LSL — laminated strand lumber
  • Glulam — glue-laminated timber members
  • I-Joists — engineered joists with I-shaped section

Advantages include dimensional stability, reduced warping/shrinkage, optimized strength, efficient wood usage, and potential cost savings.
