Ready Mix Concrete

Ready mix concrete

Ready-mix concrete (RMC) comes in three main types based on how it's mixed: transit mixed, shrink mixed, and central mixed. These types differ in where the mixing takes place—in the truck, partially at a plant and finished at the site, or completely at a central plant.

  • Transit Mixed Concrete: Also known as truck mixed concrete, it's partially mixed in the truck during transit and finished at the construction site. This method is useful when transportation times are longer, as it helps prevent premature hardening.
  • Shrink Mixed Concrete: This type is partially mixed at the plant to increase the carrying capacity of the truck. The remaining mixing is completed either during transit or at the construction site.
  • Central Mixed Concrete: Also called ready-mix concrete, this type is completely mixed at a central plant and then transported to the site, where the truck acts as a mixer to maintain consistency. This ensures a consistent quality and is often used for large projects where a specific concrete mix is needed.
